For an emergency meeting, Speaker of the House Alban Sumana Bagbin has called back lawmakers from their recess.
In an August 7 communiqué, the Speaker said that the meeting would take place in the afternoon on Tuesday, September 3.
The Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, petitioned for the decision, stating that the Speaker’s decision to suspend the session indefinitely on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, had disappointed the Majority caucus.
Afenyo-Markin emphasized in his letter to Speaker Bagbin on Wednesday, July 31, the need for Parliament to be reassembled in order to handle pressing matters of state.

The One District, One Factory Program beneficiaries’ requests for tax exemptions, issues pertaining to the Ghana Financial Stability Fund, the International Development Association’s financing agreement with the Ghanaian government, and the consideration of multiple bills are all on the agenda for the emergency meeting.
“Mr. Speaker, you will remember that on Tuesday, July 30, 2014, Parliament adjourned sine die, during which the aforementioned issues were duly advertised and scheduled for discussion. We must meet again in order to fulfill our constitutional responsibility and protect the interests of the Ghanaian people due to the gravity of these problems.
“We would like to emphasize that this request is being made in the best interest of the country and in good faith, in order to allow the government to fulfill its duties to the Ghanaian people under the constitution and democracy.”
“Parliament must give these issues its immediate attention as they are of great importance,” he declared.
