Restored but Controversial: Akufo-Addo statue at Effia-Nkwanta hospital sparks debate

The statue of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi has been repaired after sustaining significant damage.

Following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 7 general elections, the statue was found with a large hole in the back of one of its legs, fuelling widespread speculation. While some residents suspected vandalism, others pointed to possible structural flaws.

Repair work was carried out under police supervision, but the exact cause of the damage remains unclear. Opinions continue to be divided, with some attributing it to intentional acts and others to design or material defects.

Despite its restoration, the statue remains a contentious topic in the community. Critics have raised concerns about its appropriateness and timing, highlighting the need to prioritize critical developmental projects in the region.
