Okyenhene’s Parenting Proposal: Divert Salaries of Irresponsible Parents to their Abandoned Kids

Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the esteemed traditional leader, has made a passionate appeal for legislative action to address the pressing issue of parental neglect. Speaking at the 2024 Ohum Kan Festival durbar in Kyebi, he advocated for a law that would freeze the salaries of parents who have deserted their children and shunned their parenting responsibilities.

The proposed legislation aims to redirect the frozen funds towards supporting the education and upkeep of their wards, ensuring that these innocent children receive the care and support they need. Okyenhene believes that this measure will not only provide a safety net for vulnerable children but also serve as a deterrent to parents who neglect their duties.

The traditional leader expressed deep concern about the growing trend of parental neglect, which has led to an increase in streetism, vagrancy, and other social ills. He emphasized the need for responsible parenting and urged parents to prioritize the well-being of their children.

In addition, Okyenhene addressed reports of some teaching and non-teaching staff at Senior High Schools sabotaging the Free SHS policy, including stealing food items meant for students. He condemned such misconduct and called for those involved to be named and shamed.

The youth were also admonished to avoid drug abuse and live a befitting lifestyle. Okyenhene’s call to action resonated deeply with the audience, and his leadership and commitment to the well-being of his people were evident throughout the festival.

This year’s Ohum festival held special significance, as it coincided with Okyenhene’s 25th Anniversary celebration on the accession to the Ofori Panin Stool. The event was a testament to his enduring legacy and dedication to the betterment of his community.
