PHDC CEO: 11,000 Acres out of 20,000 Acres Enough for Initial Petroleum Hub Development

Charles Owusu, Chief Executive Officer of the Jomoro Petroleum Hub Development Corporation, has disclosed that the corporation has acquired a total of 20,000 acres of land in the area. However, he revealed that only 11,000 acres of the acquired land will be utilized for the project in its initial stages.

The Petroleum Hub Development Corporation, an integrated petroleum complex, has come under scrutiny from stakeholders in the Jomoro municipality over the large amount of land being acquired from farmers and residents in the area. The corporation aims to develop the largest petroleum hub in Africa, which will add value to the upstream and downstream oil and gas value chain on the continent.

The hub, located in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Nzema Traditional Council in the Western Region of Ghana, will feature a comprehensive network of onshore, offshore, and ancillary assets, including refineries, petrochemical plants, and storage tanks. This megaproject is expected to create 780,000 jobs during the development phase and beyond, with a significant positive impact on the economy.

The project has been hailed as a groundbreaking megaproject development in the Jomoro Municipality, with the potential to transform the petrochemical industry on the continent. However, residents and stakeholders in the area have expressed concerns about the size of land being acquired by the corporation, and the potential impact on their livelihoods.

CEO Charles Owusu’s revelation that only 11,000 acres of land will be utilized initially has been seen as a move to alleviate these concerns. He assured residents that the corporation will ensure that all necessary compensations are paid to affected farmers and residents.

Awulea Angamtua Gyan V, Paramount Chief of the Gwira Traditional Area, who chaired the community engagement event, urged all stakeholders to support the project while measures are being taken to ensure its smooth operation. He emphasized the importance of the project to the economic development of the region and the country as a whole.

The Petroleum Hub Development Corporation has committed to ensuring that the project is executed in a responsible and sustainable manner, with minimal impact on the environment and the local community. The corporation has also pledged to work closely with stakeholders to address any concerns and ensure that the project benefits all parties involved.
