Ne-Yo embraces polyamory, says monogamy isn’t for him

Ne-Yo has opened up about his personal journey toward self-discovery, revealing that he no longer subscribes to monogamy. During a recent appearance on Lemon Drop with Karleen Roy, the Grammy-winning artist shared his thoughts on polyamory and how embracing his true self has transformed his life.

“Society tells you you’re supposed to be with one person. You get married, and that’s supposed to be the end-all, be-all,” the So Sick singer explained. He credited his divorce from Crystal Renay Williams in 2022 as a pivotal moment that allowed him to embrace his authentic self.

“I realized that I’ve not been living my truth for a very, very long time,” Ne-Yo said. “Now I’m living it, and you can tell—my skin is glowing.”

Reflecting on his past, the 45-year-old admitted that he spent years pretending to be someone he wasn’t to please others. “It’s a weight lifted off my shoulders,” he said. “All of that acting was complete and utter time wasted.”

Despite his stance, Ne-Yo emphasized that he isn’t dismissing monogamy entirely. “Monogamy is for you. It’s not for me,” he stated. “Everything’s not for everybody.”

The Mad singer also noted that his relationship with Renay has significantly improved since he began living his truth. “As long as my happy ain’t messing with anybody else’s happy, I’m in the right place,” he said. “I’ll be damned if I ever go back to that person that needed to lie for the appeasement of somebody else. I’m not that anymore.”
