Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu has made an emotional appeal to President-elect John Mahama, urging him to honour his promises and work diligently to alleviate the hardships faced by Ghanaians.
In a heartfelt moment during a live broadcast, the actor knelt on the floor, hands clasped in humility, to emphasize the urgency of his plea. The dramatic gesture left panelists and guests visibly stunned as Kwaku Manu appealed directly to Mahama’s conscience.
“I am pleading with him,” he said, his voice trembling and tears almost welling in his eyes. “These things make me very sad and emotional. I know some people will insult me and say I’m doing too much, but I’m begging him—Ghanaians are hungry.”
He highlighted the dire state of the country, lamenting the unfulfilled promises of the outgoing administration. “Akufo-Addo introduced the ‘One District, One Factory’ initiative, which should have been prioritized, but it didn’t materialize. People are hungry. They are fleeing the country, risking their lives through Libya, and enduring unimaginable horrors along the way.”
Kwaku Manu painted a grim picture of the suffering faced by Ghanaians abroad, saying, “Many are trafficked, exploited, and forced into prostitution. I’ve been to Kuwait and seen Ghanaians thrown from storey buildings to the ground. Yet, here in Ghana, we have gold, cocoa, and other resources. We have everything it takes to do better.”
Referencing Mahama’s campaign promises, he pleaded, “You promised a 24-hour economy and the poultry initiative. Please, make it work. Have mercy on the country.”
The actor also called on Mahama to focus on implementing his policies effectively to improve citizens’ lives. He urged the president-elect to be open to constructive criticism and heed advice and counsel for the betterment of the nation.
