Major League Soccer Sees Record Attendance, Surpassing La Liga and Serie A

The Major professional soccer league in the United States has released its attendance figures, with more than 12 million total viewers in the regular season and playoffs.

MLS published attendance figures on Thursday, revealing matchday attendance figures for the 2024 season. The league’s 12.1 million viewers are second only to the English Premier League among all leagues in the world, and represent more than a million more than the Spanish top flight separation.

The individual match numbers were also impressive. Two games drew more than 70,000 fans, eight exceeded 60,000 and a combined 31 drew more than 40,000 spectators.
The figures put MLS in a competitive position among soccer leagues around the world. The advantage over the Bundesliga – just over 40,000 – is the smallest, but the league has far outpaced Serie A, La Liga and Ligue 1.

MLS has nearly doubled Liga MX’s record attendance of 6,972,261.
Fan attendance hasn’t been the only encouraging figure in America’s top league this season. MLS has also increased its Opta Relative Power Index and is now the 9th most competitive division in the world – up from 31st just two years ago.

The season ends this weekend when the New York Red Bulls take on the LA Galaxy in the MLS Cup. The pre-season is scheduled to begin in early 2025.
