Supreme Court Throws Out Another Bid to Halt Amenfi Central Election

The Supreme Court has dismissed an application for an interim injunction seeking to stop the Amenfi Central parliamentary elections from being held on Saturday, December 7.

The plaintiffs in a High Court case at Sekondi against the NDC and Joana Cudjoe Gyan filed a petition for certiorari with the Supreme Court on Wednesday, December 4, seeking the quashing of the decision that had set aside the order against the party and the Electoral Commission (EC).

Justice Yonni Kulendi, the sole judge assigned to the case, heard the application ex parte on Thursday, December 5. However, he rejected the request, paving the way for the Amenfi central elections to go ahead as scheduled.

The plaintiff’s latest move follows a decision by the Sekondi High Court, which on Monday, November 11, 2024, set aside the decision that had barred Joana Gyan Cudjoe from contesting the legislative elections.

This decision was made after the Supreme Court asked the court to lift the measure against its candidate and dismiss the disqualification case.
The case was presided over by His Excellency George K. Gyan-Kontoh.

The court had previously adjourned the application following a request from Edudzie Tamakloe, one of the lead lawyers representing Joana Gyan Cudjoe.
