President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially approved visa-free entry into Ghana for citizens of all African nations, with the policy set to take effect before his term ends on January 6, 2025.
This initiative fulfills a pledge he made during the Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD 2024) in January 2024, where he committed to enabling visa-free travel for African nationals to Ghana.
With this policy, Ghana will join Rwanda, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin as African countries offering visa-free access to all African passport holders. The initiative aims to enhance the free movement of people, goods, and services across the continent, boosting the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and fostering economic integration.
In his keynote address at APD 2024, themed “Developing Prosperity in Africa: Produce, Add Value, and Trade,” President Akufo-Addo reiterated Ghana’s dedication to the visa-free agenda.
“Many of you had to acquire a visa to attend this event,” he noted. “The government of Ghana is committed to ensuring visa-free travel for all Africans, and we have initiated the process to implement this policy within the year.”
