The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has accused the government of mismanaging an $11.5 billion loan taken out over the past eight years.
According to Mahama, the funds, if properly utilized, can be invested in transformational projects to propel Ghana towards development similar to cities like Dubai.
Addressing the Muslim community during a special prayer service at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in the Ashanti Region, Mahama compared the performance of the current government to that of his tenure.
He stressed that with a $3.5 billion loan during his tenure, he financed major infrastructure projects including the expansion of the Tema Port, the construction of Terminal 3 of the Kotoka International Airport and many other developments aimed at the growth of the Tema Port.
“President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo borrowed $11.5 billion in just 5 years. Despite all the development projects I supported when I was president, we only borrowed $3.5 billion.
“If I had borrowed $11.5 billion when I was president, Ghana would have developed like Dubai.
