Stonebwoy demands apology from Gomski over “irresponsible” comment on dancehall music

Ghanaian reggae and dancehall superstar Stonebwoy has voiced his disappointment over remarks made by Ike Otoo Arhin, also known as Gomski, the artiste manager for R2bees. Gomski recently claimed that dancehall music is the root problem of the Ghanaian music industry.

Speaking on The Big Conversation on November 16, 2024, Stonebwoy described the statement as irresponsible and called on Gomski to publicly apologize to dancehall musicians in Ghana.

“That is an irresponsible talk from him (Gomski). Mugeez is his artiste, and we all know how big and respected he is in the Ghana music industry. If Gomski retracts his words, it would help us grow as an industry,” Stonebwoy remarked.

He emphasized the value of dancehall to Ghana’s music scene and its global appeal, sharing his recent experience of performing in Ivory Coast, where he represented Ghana on an international stage.

“Dancehall is the best thing that could have happened to Ghana music. I put my heart into promoting Ghana on every stage I perform on,” he added.

Stonebwoy further stressed his dedication to the genre, highlighting his financial investments and hard work in building its reputation.

“This is music of Black origin. I studied this in school and have invested heavily in my craft. I won’t allow anyone who hasn’t contributed to tarnish the image of dancehall. I also have hit Afrobeat songs and numerous collaborations from the dancehall genre,” he asserted.

Stonebwoy’s comments underscore his unwavering commitment to defending the genre and its impact on Ghana’s music industry.
