SAUDI ARABIA has released new photos of the King Salman Stadium.
Planning is underway for the national team’s new stadium, designed by world-class architect Populous.
The stadium, which is due to be completed in 2029, will be able to accommodate more than 92,000 people.
The Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh and the Ministry of Sports have released a visualization of what the arena could look like, with a design “based on Saudi Arabia’s fascinating natural landscape.”
The stadium will house sports facilities, commercial spaces and recreational facilities, with Saudi Arabia hoping the ground can host international tournaments, including the 2034 World Cup.
It will also include a royal box, a hospitality box and lounges, 300 VVIP seats and 2,200 VIP seats, and will have indoor screens, gardens and a walking path on its roof with panoramic views of King Abdulaziz Park.
Saudi Arabia has planned a state-of-the-art sports park with an athletics stadium, an aquatic center with an Olympic-sized swimming pool and several training fields.
The stadium itself has a unique design with outdoor stands that resemble leaves or even a dismantled football pitch.
The concept is a sprouted seed that shatters, “cracks the ground and emerges as a dynamic but seemingly natural intervention”.
The idea is intended to represent Saudi Arabia’s commitment to the growth of sports in the country, from grassroots to elite level. A Visualization of the stadium also shows the spaces between the stands extending into the walkways surrounding the stadium. Populous was given the important task of making this rendering a reality.
However, they have worked on stadim like Wembley, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Lusail Stadium, host of the 2022 World Cup final.
