The Western Regional Co-ordinating Council has reopened its Investment and Business Centre to attract investments, drive innovation, and create jobs to ensure the region benefits directly from its own resources.
Speaking at the reopening of the Centre in Sekondi, Mr Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, stated that the core mission of the centre was to coordinate the region’s natural resources and ensure businesses flourished to the benefit of the people.
He said: “The journey has just started, and I am confident that we will soon look back and see the significant progress the Western Region has made.
“We have lamented for far too long, and now is the time to take the bull by the horns to take control of our own destiny and ensure this region finally receives the attention and benefits its people rightfully deserve.”
Mr Nelson called for a collective effort to take control of the region’s destiny and drive its development for sustainable growth.
Meanwhile, a 15-member board made up of representatives from key sectors including; agriculture, tourism, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, the Free Zones Board, and traditional authorities among others have been constituted to ensure the success of the centre.
Nana Kobina Nketsia V, President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, on behalf of the board, highlighted the central challenge of the region and said its resource wealth had not translated into local prosperity.
He lauded the reopening of the Centre, stating that it would secure investor confidence and ensure the region benefited from its own investments.
“We must find a way to participate in the utilisation of the resources God has naturally endowed us with, and this centre is the vehicle we will use to uplift the people of the region and ensure they are an integral part of this process,” he noted.
