Mr John Kwadwo Gyapong, the Oti Regional Minister, has requested over 70-acre of land from traditional authorities in WoraWora in the Biakoye District, for establishment of a modern STEM education centre in the community.

Mr Gyapong made the request citing the exceptional performance of the WoraWora Senior High School (WORASEC) in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.

Addressing traditional leaders, management and staff of the School, Mr Gyapong said the Minister of Education had already announced that the government would build a STEM secondary school in the Oti Region, with WORASEC being a prime candidate due to its outstanding track record in STEM.

Nana Kwadwo Nyarko, the Acting President of WoraWoraman, pledged to provide land for the proposed STEM education center without any litigation issues.

He assured the Regional Minister that the traditional leaders were willing to collaborate with the government to advance STEM education in the area.

He emphasised that the land would be allocated without any disputes, paving the way for the establishment of a modern STEM education center.

Mr Michael Damesi, the Headmaster of WORASEC, made a passionate appeal to the government through the Regional Minister, to address some pressing infrastructure issues plaguing the school.

Mr Damesi cited abandoned projects including the school’s dining hall, uncompleted boys’ dormitory and a broken bridge leading to the school, saying these were hindering students’ learning experiences and their overall well-being.

He said the uncompleted dining hall had left students without a proper place to eat, compromising their health and safety, while the unfinished dormitory block had created an uncomfortable living environment, affecting their ability to focus on their studies.

Mr Damesi said the broken bridge leading to the school posed a significant risk to students, particularly during the rainy season and needed immediate repair.

The Minister was accompanied by Mr Sullemana Abdul Mumuni, a presidential staffer, Mr Eric Gidisu, the Oti Regional Director of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) and his personal security guard.
