The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako (aka Chairman Wontumi), has cautioned party members against supporting independent parliamentary candidates in the upcoming December 7th elections. He described these candidates as “wolves in sheep’s clothing,” claiming to be NPP members while secretly working against the party.
Chairman Wontumi threatened to suspend anyone whose actions harm the party’s chances of winning a majority in Parliament. He argued that it’s hypocritical for party members to support Bawumia while rejecting the party’s parliamentary candidates, as this drives away potential voters and undermines the party’s goal of “breaking the 8.”
During a meeting with Bekwai constituency leaders, Chairman Wontumi labeled the independent candidate as “ungrateful and greedy” and advised them to join the NPP and follow proper procedures. He believes the independent candidate is backed by John Mahama and the NDC.
Chairman Wontumi also warned against discrediting the party and its leadership, stating that anyone found working against the party will face consequences. He urged party activists to support the parliamentary candidate, Lawyer Ralph Opoku-Adusei, and Dr. Bawumia, emphasizing the importance of unity, hard work, and prayers in winning the 2024 elections.
Later, Chairman Wontumi and his delegation visited the Bekwai Zongo chief’s palace, seeking prayers for Bawumia’s ambition and the parliamentary candidate. The Sarkin Zango pledged support for Bawumia, citing his proven track record and the fact that he is a Muslim.
