Williams Wins Big: Rowen Williams Named Africa’s Best Goalkeeper

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams put in a stellar performance at the Caf Awards where he won a number of accolades including Interclub Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year.

The 32-year-old became the first South African footballer to win the Goalkeeper of the Year award. He is also the second PSL player to win the Inter-Club Player of the Year award after his Sundowns teammate and Ugandan legend Denis Onyango won the award in 2016.

Al Ahly’s Percy Tau was named Interclub Player of the Year last year and his Bafana Bafana teammate Williams is the second South African to win the award.

This recognition comes after he missed out on the prestigious Yachine Trophy. Williams was rewarded for his outstanding performances for club and country. The Gqeberha goalkeeper had an outstanding year, leading Sundowns to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League.

He also helped South Africa win a bronze medal in international competitions. His consistent form has earned him praise, cementing his place among Africa’s best goalkeepers. The awards reflect his dedication and high-level performance throughout the year.
