Volta Regional Minister expresses support for the Ghana Red Cross Society  

Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister has assured the Volta Regional Directorate of the Ghana Red Cross Society for his support in delivering their mandate.
He commended the Society for its crucial role in saving lives, especially during emergency situations, and expressed his readiness to work with them.
Mr Gunu said this when a team from the Regional Directorate of the Ghana Red Cross Society paid a courtesy call on him at his office to congratulate him on his appointment as the Volta Regional Minister.
He underscored the need for the Society to embark on awareness creation to increase its membership and inculcate in the youth the spirit of nationalism and voluntarism.
The Minister advised the directorate to visit educational institutions to form clubs to help the students learn about the relevance of the Society, its principles, and participate in community service.
He lamented that though Society was a critical institution and its operations were relevant, it had not been given the needed attention in the past.
Mr Gershon Dzokoto, Volta Regional Director of the Society assured the Minister of their unwavering support and cooperation in achieving a safer and more resilient Volta Region.
He said they were eager to work hand in hand with the Minister’s administration to promote humanitarian values, save lives, and improve community well-being.
Mr Dzokoto said they were confident that under the leadership of the Minister the region would witness development and improved humanitarian coordination.
The Director said the Society had been in the forefront of disaster response, first aid training, health promotion, and community reliance-building across the Volta Region.
Mr Dzokoto said strong coordination with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council would help the Society in making significant in the areas including disaster risk reduction and preparedness.
Other areas are health and first aid training, youth and volunteer engagement, water, sanitation and hygiene programmes, and community resilience and livelihood support.
The Director said effective partnership between government, humanitarian organisations, and local communities were vital for sustainable development and emergency preparedness.
He appealed to the Minister to support them in areas including policy integration, resource mobilisation, and strengthening of the existing emergency response frameworks.
Mr Dzokoto asks the Minister to consider the inclusion of the Ghana Red Cross Society in key decision-making forums and disaster response committee at the regional and district levels.
This, he said, would enable them to contribute their expertise and resources more effectively to complement government efforts in addressing humanitarian challenges.
