The Volta Regional Office of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has seized 60 vehicles and motorcycles for breaching road safety regulations.

According to Madam Joana Fafa Ayer, the Volta Regional Head of the NRSA, the machines were seized during a two-day joint road safety enforcement exercises by the NRSA, the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Ho, the regional capital.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Madam Ayer said vehicles comprised 10 private and commercial cars as well as 50 rickshaws (Pragya) and motorcycles, (Okada), and tricycles (Aboboyaa).

The exercise was conducted between June 25 and 26 July 2025 at the market top, GN Bank premises, Trafalgar Road, Royal Hospital enclave, and the Ho Zongo community.

Madam Ayer said: “The exercise is aimed at addressing common violations of road users and to enhance adherence to road safety standards”, saying the NRSA and its partners remained committed to ensure that drivers and riders complied to road safety regulations and standards.

She said the enforcement exercise would be extended to other districts and municipalities in the region.

Madam Ayer said some of violation include drivers and riders without valid driving license, unlicensed or underage riders, vehicles without number plates, unregistered motorcycles and tricycles as well as non-approved lighting systems, and a lack of essential safety equipment, including spare tires, fire extinguishers, and warning triangles.

Some of the offenders were asked to renew or obtain valid driving licenses, roadworthy certificates and insurance within the two-days, saying those who failed to meet the grace period were also arraigned before court.

Mad Ayer said the NRSA had intensified public education on road safety regulations, saying offenders had no excuse.
