The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Wednesday commissioned an ultra-modern police station on campus to complement government’s efforts in fostering a secure and conducive environment for teaching, learning and administrative work.
The facility, built with a distinctive brick design, comprises a case management room, male and female cells, Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), Criminal Investigations Office, Station Officer’s office, armoury, exhibit room, kitchenette, and visitors’ washroom, among other essential features.
Mr Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, the Minister of the Interior, who commissioned the building, called on police personnel to intensify their efforts in building a safer and more secure society.
He reiterated government’s continued commitment to supporting the Ghana Police Service with logistics and infrastructure to enhance public safety and security across the country.
Commending the UPSA for its initiative, Mr Mubarak said the collaboration between the University and the Government was a laudable step toward deepening institutional security partnerships.
He urged the police personnel assigned to the new station to maintain high standards and make efficient use of the facility to serve the University and surrounding communities.
Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, the Vice Chancellor of UPSA, expressed gratitude to both the immediate past and current Inspectors General of Police for their support in bringing the project to fruition.
He said the University’s proactive approach to security was in line with the national priority on safety and the University’s own commitment to protecting its students and staff.
“Security remains a hallmark of President John Dramani Mahama’s legacy and a core concern for the University. This achievement is one we are proud of,” he noted.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr Duut Tuaruka, Accra Regional Police Commander, said the new station would not only serve the University but also benefit neighbouring communities by bringing security services closer to them.
He assured the gathering of the Service’s dedication to maintaining law and order in the area.
Present at the commissioning were members of the Police Management Board, led by Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector General of Police, as well as staff and students of UPSA.
