“Trash for IT and Sports” initiative launched

Big Cash Ghana Limited, in partnership with Icon Technology Systems, has initiated “Trash for IT and Sport” to help in the campaign for a clean environment and especially against plastic waste.
The campaign is part of the Community Information Technology Skills Training Programme (CITSTP) that seeks to empower marginalised communities through education, skills development, and sustainable initiatives, specifically in the areas of IT and sports, with a focus on women and children.
Mr Kwabena Bonsu, Chief Executive Officer of Big Cash Ghana, said the initiative would also help in the provision of desktop and laptop computers for some second-cycle schools across the country.
He stated that these second-cycle schools would collect empty plastic bottles and beverage cans from their schools, which would be handed over to Big Cash Ghana Limited for recycling purposes.
According to Mr. Bonsu, over 100 million empty plastic bottles and beverage cans are expected to be collected across Ghana by schools and institutions.
“Schools and institutions that meet the set quota would receive at least 100 computers as well as Information Technology (IT) support services from Big Cash and their partners.
“They would also get support for the development and promotion of women football in their respective schools and education on food and nutrition,” said Mr Bonsu.
He added that 250 schools across the country have subscribed to the project and have already started the collection of empty plastic bottles and cans.
“The initiative is to help clean up the environment of plastic bottles and empty cans, which have over the years caused environmental havoc.
“Schools and institutions would get not less than two chrome book laptop computers should they collect at least one ton each of plastic bottles, sachet water rubbers and beverage cans,” he said.
Mr. Bonsu added that they would also donate at least 100 computers to schools with a population of 500.
