After more than two years of strike action, train drivers in England, Scotland, and Wales have accepted a pay deal, bringing an end to the disruptions that have plagued rail services.
Key Terms of the Deal
– 5% backdated pay rise for 2022-23
– 4.75% pay increase for 2023-24
– 4.5% pay increase for 2024-25
– No changes to working conditions
Aslef union members voted overwhelmingly in favor of the deal, with 96.6% approval and an 84% turnout.
The agreement marks the end of strike action with 16 train operating companies in England, which saw drivers stage 18 strikes and participate in several overtime bans.
Mick Whelan stated, “It was not a fight we sought, or wanted… All we sought after five years without a pay rise was a dent in the cost of living.”
With the strike action coming to an end, passengers can expect a more stable and predictable travel experience.
