Tema Police, GPHA collaborate to ensure security for 24-hour port operations

The Tema Regional Police Command is collaborating and strategising with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to ensure security for the 24-hour operations of the Tema Port.

In view of this, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Barnabas Nambont Nasumong, the Tema Regional Police Commander, paid a courtesy call on Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, the Director General of the GPHA, to deepen collaboration on port security.

The police commander was accompanied by the Tema Regional Police Command’s Staff Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Peter Boakye, while Dr Kingsley Antwi-Boasiako, the General Manager of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, and Mr David Songotu, the General Manager of Risk, sat in the meeting with the GPHA Director General.

The visit focused on enhancing coordination between the Ghana Police Service and GPHA security to ensure the safety of life and property within the port environment.

The Tema Regional Police Commander said that with the newly launched round-the-clock port services, which are expected to increase activity at the ports, there was the need for heightened police presence to deter crime while maintaining law and order.

DCOP Nasumong disclosed that the Police Service had increased police visibility and response mechanisms across the port enclave and its surrounding areas to preempt any criminal attempts that might arise as a result of the increased port traffic and extended operational hours.

Brigadier General Tanye-Kulono, on his part, lauded the continuous cooperation between GPHA’s security team and the Tema Regional Police Command, and he commended the proactiveness of the police in maintaining a visible presence at the port.

He reaffirmed GPHA’s commitment to working closely with law enforcement agencies to provide a safe and secure business environment for all port users.
