Mr Charles Amos, assemblyman for Padmore Electoral Area, has commended Ms Ebi Bright, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), for her prompt intervention to hold a cleanup exercise at the Meridian enclave.
Mr Amos expressed deep appreciation to the MCE for responding quickly to some concerns he raised over the worsening sanitary conditions at the Meridian enclave revealing that the assembly had deployed some of its sanitation machinery to help clear the area of refuse and human waste.
Speaking with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, he lamented that the site had unfortunately become a dumping ground for rubbish and a spot for open defecation, stressing that although the Meridian hotel had become defunct, the site remained critically important due to its geographical and symbolic significance.
He noted that the MCE took additional steps to ensure the place remained tidy by assigning four young men to provide constant monitoring and prevent the return of unsanitary practices at the site day and night after the cleanup exercise on Wednesday.
He cautioned the public against littering and engaging in any form of illegal dumping of refuse at the site, emphasising that anyone caught throwing rubbish or defecating in the area would be apprehended and prosecuted.
The Assemblyman further called on residents to support the Tema Metropolitan Assembly’s (TMA) sanitation drive and play active roles in the development of the community, urging local shop owners and residents to be vigilant and report any wrongdoing.
He expressed gratitude to the unit committee members and all the residents who actively participated in the communal clean-up exercise, saying that their commitment, time, and collective effort in ensuring the environment was made cleaner and more conducive for everyone were appreciated.
