Takoradi market women mourn the demise of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings

Market women of Takoradi are among the countless groups paying tribute to the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady, who passed away on October 23, 2025.

The Takoradi market women joined a growing list of individuals and groups paying tribute to the former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who left behind a legacy of empowerment and advocacy for women’s rights.

The women, who benefited from her empowerment initiatives, described her as a champion of women’s rights and a pillar of strength and growth.

They also praised Nana Konadu’s tireless efforts in promoting women’s rights and empowerment, particularly through the 31st December Women’s Movement, which she founded.

The Movement, they noted, provided vocational training, microfinance support, and other forms of assistance to women across the country.

The women commended Nana Konadu’s courage and resilience in the face of challenges, noting that she was a true leader who inspired countless women to stand up for their rights.

Madam Ama Essaba, a trader at the Takoradi Market, acknowledged that the late former First Lady was a true champion of women’s empowerment and a beacon of hope for many of them.

She expressed her sadness, saying, “Nana Konadu was more than just a First Lady; she was a mother to us all. She empowered us with skills and financial support, enabling us to take care of our families.”

Another trader, Madam Afi Hosse, recounted that she didn’t just talk about women’s empowerment but acted and that her legacy would continue to inspire them.
