SWAG welcomes Kofi Adams as Sports and Recreation Minister

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has welcomed Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams as the first minister for the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

Mr. Adams assumed the role as Minister of Sports and Recreation, after being approved by Ghana’s Parliament and sworn in by President John Mahama.
SWAG remarked in a statement that they were keen to see Mr. Adams follow through on his promise to develop sports holistically, prioritising not only football but also other sports disciplines.
“As Minister, Mr. Adams will face many challenges, including the need to improve sports infrastructure, enhance athlete welfare, and promote transparency and accountability in sports governance.
“However, with his experience and passion for sports, there’s no doubt he’ll rise to the challenge and make a positive impact on Ghanaian sports.
“SWAG is particularly excited about Mr. Adams’ commitment to promoting other sporting disciplines beyond football. This is a critical area that requires attention, as Ghana has a wealth of talented athletes across various sports,” the statement said.
SWAG also urged the Sports and Recreation Minister to pay attention to school sports, revive Inter-Schools competitions, and the Security Services Sports Association Games.
“By prioritising the development of these sports, Mr Adams can help create a more diverse and vibrant sports ecosystem in Ghana,” the statement added.
Lastly, SWAG said they are committed to strengthening their relationship with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and look forward to closely working with Mr. Adams in the development of sports in the country.
