The Susana Wesley Mission Auxiliary (SUMA) of the Methodist Church has donated assorted items to female inmates of the Tamale Central Prisons to support their welfare.
The items included four packs of toilet rolls, two boxes of soap, five packs of drinks, two boxes of sanitary pads, two boxes of biscuits, one box of sachet milk, one box of pepsodent, and three boxes of toothbrushes.
The gesture formed part of SUMA’s outreach mission to demonstrate God’s love to the vulnerable in society.
Madam Grace Quainoo, President of SUMA, who led a delegation to present the items to the authorities of the prison, said the initiative was also in fulfilment of the Christian duty of visiting and encouraging people in prisons as enjoined by scripture.
Quoting Matthew 25:43, she stressed that one of the criteria for God’s judgment would be how believers supported the less privileged, including those in prison.
She encouraged the inmates not to view their incarceration as evidence of being the worst sinners, but rather as part of God’s will for their lives at that moment, urging them to remain faithful and law-abiding as God had good plans for them.
The SUMA team also fellowshipped with the inmates through worship, prayer, and thanksgiving before handing over the items.
Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) Madam Rosemary Afipungu, Religious Affairs Officer in charge of the Female Prisons, received the items on behalf of the inmates and expressed gratitude to SUMA for the support.
