Suhum MP, Oboafo Kwadwo Asante, Ditches NPP to Run as Independent Candidate
The sitting Member of Parliament for the Suhum Constituency in the Eastern Region, Oboafo Kwadwo Asante, has announced his decision to contest the 2024 elections as an Independent candidate. Asante, who currently represents the constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), cited the lack of transparency, honesty, vision, and love within the party as reasons for his decision.
Asante believes that his continuous stay in parliament would better serve the people of Suhum, and that the time has come for Ghanaians to move beyond partisan politics and focus on the country’s development. He claims to have the support of the people and ancestors of Suhum in his decision to run as an Independent candidate.
Asante’s decision comes after the NPP’s disputed parliamentary primaries, where he was defeated by Samuel Asiedu Bekoe, allegedly due to monetary inducements from the Jubilee House. The Movement for Change has welcomed Asante’s decision, drawing parallels with Alan’s Independent presidential bid, aimed at uniting Ghanaians to build the country.
