SSNIT to introduce virtual branch service

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), will soon introduce virtual branch service operations to ensure seamless nationwide service across Ghana.

The aim is to bring services closer to the doorsteps of the people.

Mr Philip Kofi Senya, the General Manager in-charge of Operations, who made this known, said SSNIT was leveraging technology to improve service delivery and make it more convenient for people to contribute to the scheme.

At a media engagement event in Kumasi, he said the Trust currently had over 2.09 million active contributors as of August 2025, up from 340,000 in 1965, when the scheme was introduced.

He said there were about 96,000 active employers, while pensioners on SNNIT payroll stood at 257,000, up from 33 in 1966.

Mr Senya said a total of GHc 5.1 billion had been paid to beneficiaries as of October 2025, adding that processing time for pension had been reduced to about 85 per cent.

He said the Trust had been investing in various sectors of the economy to promote national development.

The Trust’s total assets under investment management currently stand at GHc 24,512.91 billion.

Mr Senya said 99 per cent of SSNIT investments were in the Ghanaian economy in the areas of real estate, mining, hospitality, food and beverages, agriculture, energy, insurance, ICT and manufacturing sectors.

He said SSNIT had made major contribution to the growth and development of Ghana, which was making greater impact in the lives of many Ghanaians.

Mr Senya mentioned low informal sector coverage, delayed employer remittance, misconception of SSNIT value proposition, large life expectancy and micro-economic volatility, as some of the challenges facing the Trust.

Mr Henry Imoro, Ashanti Regional Area Manager of SSNIT, said the engagement was to create a platform for dialogue and collaboration with the media to intensify public education and awareness on pensions.
