Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, has confirmed that cabinet has approved the national sports fund to deal with financial challenges faced by various sporting disciplines.
Mr Adams made this announcement during the official launch of the CAVB Zone III Volleyball Club Championship in Accra.
According to the Minister, the draft bill is currently being worked on and would soon be laid before Parliament, and hopefully it would be passed.
“From next year we are going to have a national sports fund, and cabinet has given approval for that.
“The bill is currently being worked on, and I can assure you that as Minister I have lobbied both sides of the House, and it will receive less resistance and will be passed immediately into law so we can build it up and fund activities in various sporting areas,” Mr Adams said.
The Sports Minister was appalled at how sports associations struggle to get funding and believes the sports fund would help deal with such issues.
“The national fund would serve as a dedicated financial mechanism to support sports development across disciplines, from infrastructure and player welfare to grassroots initiatives.
“It is my strong belief that such a strong funding vehicle would provide sustainable and transparent financing of Ghanaian sports,” he said.
Mr Adams also revealed the government’s intention to build multi-purpose courts across the various stadiums that would be built in the new regions and also regions that do not have a stadium.
