SOSA launches Star Basic School’s 50th anniversary celebration

The Star Old Students Association (SOSA) has launched the 50th anniversary celebration of the Star Basic School in Tema Community Five.
The school, established in 1975, commenced with kindergarten and primary classes, and expanded in 1987 to include junior high school.
Mr Kwadwo Owusu Baah, the Chairman of SOSA, speaking at the launch, stated that the anniversary celebration of Star Basic School marked a milestone of five decades of excellence in education and community impact.

Mr Baah saluted the leadership of teachers, parents, administrators, and students who have poured their hearts into making the school what it is today, adding that the school did not just give them an education but rather a foundation of discipline, hard work, integrity, and excellence.
He urged the school community to use the celebration to look forward with hope, stating that over the years, the Star Basic has consistently topped rankings in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E), becoming the pride of the community.
“With about 2500 alumni, many of whom have achieved appreciable success, the school’s legacy is a testament to the power of quality education.”

He urged the school community, as part of the golden jubilee celebration, to reflect on the meaning behind the Star Basic School crest, which symbolises its values, mission, and identity as the black star of Ghana and a model of academic and black excellence.
Madam Veronica Angmor, Headmistress, Star Primary, in a welcome address, said over the past 50 years, the school had impacted generations of leaders, innovators and compassionate individuals who have made impacts on the world.
She added that it had brought a beacon of academic excellence, character building and community service, shaping generations of learners who continue to impact society.

Mr David Acolatse, the School Management Committee (SMC) Chairman, reiterated the achievement of the school, adding that as part of the anniversary, management had planned to lobby for funds to rehabilitate the school infrastructure, including the ICT lab, fence wall, JHS block and washroom facility.
