Veteran Kumawood actor Agya Koo has shared details of a challenging time in his career when he faced coordinated attacks from certain producers in the Nigerian movie industry. Agya Koo disclosed that during his peak, some individuals in the Nigerian industry actively plotted his downfall, despite previously inviting him to perform in Nigeria.
Agya Koo explained that the late Nigerian actor Mr. Ibu played a crucial role in safeguarding him from these schemes by alerting him to planned actions. “At one point, the Nigerian movie industry wasn’t thriving much in Ghana. They even held a meeting in Lagos to discuss ‘who this Agya Koo guy was,’ and someone warned me about it,” Agya Koo recounted.
He added, “Mr. Ibu, a friend of mine, would call me if anything came up. One day, he advised me not to travel to Nigeria. So, when I received offers to act there, I avoided them.”
Addressing rumours about his selectiveness in roles, Agya Koo clarified that his decisions stemmed from health concerns. “I started experiencing eye issues and went for multiple tests, but nothing was found. Later, I got calls from Mercy Asiedu and Miracle Films, saying they dreamed I’d need eye surgery and warned me to be cautious.”
He explained that he had requested directors to limit night shoots, but their reluctance contributed to the impression that he was turning down roles.
