Nene Dameh Agbewornu II, Chief of Sege, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to consider building a university at Ada to serve the tertiary needs of people in and around Ada.
This, he said, would also shorten the travelling distance students have to cover to acquire a university education.
Nene Agbewornu, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, noted that some of the youth in Ada get discouraged by the expense of travelling and renting of apartments for years in the pursuit of tertiary education.
He added that President Mahama is known for his prioritisation of infrastructural development, hence the need to appeal for the consideration of a university in the area.
“Our people are suffering pursuing their tertiary education. Ada has come far, and we should have a university by now. They sometimes travel to Cape Coast, Winneba, Accra, Kumasi, and other places and stay there for years, rent apartments, and incur other costs to pursue university education,” he explained.
According to him, Ada had vast lands that could facilitate the building of universities, adding that the traditional leaders were ready and willing to give out any portion deemed suitable for such a project.
Nene Agbewornu also appealed for the swift completion of a Community Day Senior High School at Anyamam in the Ada West District, which has been abandoned for almost a decade, noting that this project would help communities around the Ada coast to have access to senior secondary education, reducing teenage pregnancy and school dropouts and saving costs.
“I also want to plead with H.E. Mahama to complete the Agenda 111 project started in our district by the previous government to help us have access to quality health care. It will also help to create employment for the youth in the district and Ada as a whole,” he emphasised.
The chief expressed optimism in the John Mahama administration, stating that President Mahama has a record of accomplishment of infrastructural development.
