Over 700 former senior national security leaders have endorsed Kamala Harris for president, citing Donald Trump’s impulsiveness, lack of information, and unfitness for the role of Commander-in-Chief. The National Security Leaders for America, a bipartisan group of retired generals, admirals, and ambassadors, released a statement emphasizing the stark contrast between Harris’s strategic leadership and Trump’s vengeful impulsiveness.
The group’s letter criticizes Trump’s attempts to undermine democracy, including his false claims of election fraud and refusal to respect the 2024 election results. It also highlights Trump’s praise for authoritarian leaders like Xi Jinping, Kim Jong Un, and Vladimir Putin, while being adversarial toward allies like the U.K., Israel, and Canada.
The endorsement is significant, with 741 signatories, including high-profile Democrats like Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, and Republicans who served in previous administrations. The National Security Leaders for America prioritizes two principles: America’s national security requires a capable leader, and American democracy is invaluable.
Since becoming the Democratic nominee, Harris has surged ahead in polls and performs well in key swing states. She has also gained support from over 100 former Republican officials who deem Trump unfit for office.
