Second edition of Absa Black Star Marathon set for July 26

The second edition of the Absa Black Star Marathon, an international running event for elite athletes and recreational runners, will take place on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
The marathon, which will begin at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, is expected to draw over 5000 runners competing for numerous prize packages in both the men’s and women’s events.
The event would comprise the traditional 42.2km marathon, a 10km wheelchair race and a 5km race in the men’s and women’s categories.
The marathon will not only celebrate Accra’s vibrant spirit but will also serve as a platform for developing the next generation of healthy and physically active athletes and citizens.
These events are intended to provide more opportunity for Ghanaians and athletes from across the world to race, improve their performances, and compete against international runners.
The Black Star Marathon would also give tools to help athletes train properly, including coaching and mentoring, nutrition, equipment, and facilities.
Details for this year’s marathon would be announced by organisers in due course, as well as the commencement of registration for the event.
The 2024 edition of the race held at the Accra Sports Stadium was a massive success, with Kenya long-distance runner Wesley Kemboi winning the men’s race with a time of 2:22:48.
In the women’s race, Christiana Mumuni emerged the winner, while the wheelchair race was won by Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe.
