The Retirees Association, led by spokesperson Mr. Obed Tettehfia, is demanding justice for unpaid end-of-service benefits from Electrochem Ghana Limited, owned by business magnate McDan. Despite decades of dedication to the Songor Salt Project, retirees have been left without financial support, sparking a long-standing battle.
Tettehfia expressed frustration at a press conference, accusing McDan of abandoning vulnerable retirees and failing to honor his promises. The association has attempted to resolve the issue through legal and peaceful means, but McDan has not upheld his commitment to a two-year payment plan proposed by the National Labour Commission.
The retirees’ plight has resulted in financial hardship, with some tragically losing their lives due to lack of healthcare. Tettehfia emphasized that their rights, health, and dignity are non-negotiable, urging McDan to assume responsibility for the company’s liabilities.
The association has appealed to authorities, including the chiefs of Ada and the National Labour Commission, but remains unresolved. Tettehfia warned that this injustice sets a dangerous precedent, threatening future conflicts over natural assets. The retirees vow to continue pursuing justice until their rightful benefits are paid, calling on the government, human rights organizations, and the public to hold McDan accountable.
