ReOccupyJulorbiHouse Protest: Protesters granted GHS70,000 bail

The Accra High Court has granted bail to nine protesters, including lawyer Ama Governor (Elorm Ababio), who were arrested during the Democracy Hub’s three-day #ReOccupyJulorbiHouse#StopGalamsey protests in late September.

Journalist Kwaku Asante shared on X that state prosecutors opposed the bail when it was announced by Justice Comfort Tasiame. The court set the bail at GHC70,000 with two sureties for each of the protesters, who are also required to report to the police once a week.

“This application is for Ama Governor, Emmanuel Gyan, Emmanuel Kwabena Addo, Ziblim Yakubu, Oheneba Prempeh, Philip Owusu Kobina, Akisibik Desmond, Von Coffie, and Sadik Yakubu,” Asante added, noting that other protesters’ hearings will take place in different courts.

Ama Governor was part of a group of 53 protesters arrested in late September and subsequently held in police custody for two weeks before appearing in court.
