The Private University Founders Association (PUFA) Ghana has re-elected its current executive body to serve another two-year term while expanding its membership with four new additions.
Dr Paul Kofi Fynn, President of PUFA, announced the decision during the Association’s biennial General Meeting (AGM) held in Accra.
The AGM served as a platform to review PUFA’s achievements over the past two years, including engagements with government stakeholders to promote the recognition of private universities.
The AGM also highlighted the need for more private universities to join PUFA to strengthen collective advocacy.
He stated that the members expressed confidence in the leadership by endorsing their continuation in office.
“The good news is that the members asked the executive to remain for two more years. However, they added four new members to the association,” he said.
He emphasised that the new members would play a crucial role in advancing the interests of private universities in Ghana, particularly in enhancing their public image and advocacy efforts.
Dr Fynn noted that the association had been working closely with the Ministry of Education and Parliament to ensure private universities were well represented in national education policies.
“We want to make sure that private universities stay well-known in society so that people will recognise them as among the best options for higher education,” he stated.
While PUFA has submitted several policy proposals to the government, Dr Fynn indicated that discussions were still ongoing and declined to disclose specifics.
“We are working with the government on many issues, but firm decisions have not yet been taken. It would be premature to discuss them now,” he said.
He assured that once agreements were finalised, the public would be duly informed.
Dr Fynn urged institutions to unite under the association to pursue common goals in Ghana’s higher education sector.
The executives include Rev Professor Emmanuel K. K. Larbi, Vice President of PUFA; Prof. Afua Hesse, Member; Ms Joyce Ababio, Treasurer of PUFA; Prof. Martin Gyambah, Executive Secretary of PUFA; and Dr Dee Otibu Asare, Public Relations Officer, PUFA.
Other members of the Association include Dr Tetteh Nettey from Marshalls University College; Mr Douglas Frempong Nnuroh from Klintaps University College; Nana Owusu Kwarteng from Garden City University; Dr Ernest Ansah from Datalink University; and Reverend Dr Kwamena Essel from Knutsford University.
