President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced that the government’s Agenda 111 Hospitals Project is expected to create over 60,000 jobs upon completion. This landmark project aims to improve Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure and provide employment opportunities for thousands of Ghanaians.
The Agenda 111 project involves the construction of 111 hospitals across Ghana, including district, regional, and psychiatric hospitals. Each construction site has an average of 120 workers, and once completed, the hospitals will employ a significant number of healthcare professionals and support staff.
The project is expected to create over 60,000 jobs, including:
559 persons employed in each district hospital
1,343 persons employed in each regional hospital
947 persons employed in each psychiatric hospital
President Akufo-Addo announced this during the inauguration and official handover of a 120-bed Sekyere Kumawu District Hospital and a 120-bed Adansi North District Hospital at Kumawu and Fomena, respectively, last Wednesday as part of his four-day working visit to the Ashanti Region.
These two facilities are funded by a $175 million loan from the United Kingdom Export Financing, secured in 2012. The government has completed three facilities, with several more set to be inaugurated soon.
The President announced that several hospitals are set to be inaugurated, including five health facilities in the Western Region, an upgraded public health facility in Akontombra, and the new Ashanti Regional Hospital at Sawua. Additionally, the Urology and Nephrology Centre of Excellence at Korle Bu in Accra is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
The Paramount Chief of Kumawu commended the government for the project and appealed for the road to the hospital to be fixed and for clearance to employ more health service personnel.
The Agenda 111 project is a significant milestone in Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure development and job creation efforts. The project is expected to improve healthcare outcomes, stimulate economic growth, and enhance the overall well-being of the Ghanaian people.
