David Coote, a Premier League official, has been suspended by the PGMOL refereeing body following a “full investigation” into his conduct.
Coote was suspended by Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) on November 11 pending a full investigation after a video showing him making disparaging comments about Liverpool and the club’s former manager Jurgen Klopp was circulated on social media.
A further investigation was launched two days later after the Sun published photos it said were taken during this summer’s European Championships, which showed Coote sniffing white powder through a rolled-up US dollar bill.
PGMOL said Coote’s actions made his position “untenable”.
Neither the photos nor the video have been independently verified by the BBC.
“David Coote’s actions were found to constitute a serious breach of the terms of his employment contract,” PGMOL said.
“David Coote’s support continues to be important to us and we are committed to his well-being.”
Coote has the right to appeal the decision to terminate his employment.
