Police Arrest Suspect Who Threatened Public Officials After GH¢50,000 Bounty

The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of Ibrahim Mohammed, alias “Kanawu,” who had been wanted for threatening to harm several public officials, including Interior Minister Henry Quartey and Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. The suspect was arrested on September 11, 2024, just two days after a GH¢50,000 bounty was issued for credible information leading to his capture.

Kanawu had been declared wanted on September 9, 2024, after a video surfaced online showing him making grave threats against key government figures, including vowing to shoot and kill officials. He also made explosive allegations about the unsolved murder of lawmaker JB Danquah, a case that has been a source of national concern for years.

The police had appealed to the public for assistance in locating Kanawu, and his arrest has brought relief to the nation as security concerns had escalated following the circulation of the video. The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to be processed for court.

The police have urged the public to remain calm, assuring that the situation is under control and that any further developments will be communicated promptly. This arrest marks a significant moment for the Ghana Police Service as they continue to work to protect public officials and ensure national security amid rising threats, particularly in the lead-up to the general election.
