The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the recent assault on Mr. Latif Iddrisu, a journalist with JoyNews.
The arrest follows an incident on May 27, 2025, during a protest in front of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra.
The demonstration was staged by members of parliament and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the arrest of Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as âChairman Wontumi,â the partyâs Ashanti Regional Chairman.
A statement issued and signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, said Mr. Iddrisu, who was covering the demonstration, was reportedly attacked by some protestors.
It said the suspect, Theophilus Thompson, aged 55, was arrested on June 7, 2025, at 1700 hours in James Town, Accra.
He is currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.
Efforts are underway to identify and arrest other individuals involved in the assault.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting journalists’ rights and safety, warning that anyone engaging in violence against media personnel or members of the public would be dealt with according to the law.
