Police apprehend 16-year-old SHS student for unlawful possession of firearm

The Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command has apprehended a 16-year-old second-year boarding student of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) for unlawful possession of a locally manufactured firearm.
According to a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the incident occurred on Tuesday, May 14, 2025, at about 09:30 hours.
The statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs, said school authorities uncovered the firearm during a routine search of dormitories.
Subsequently, the student was arrested and handed over to the police for further investigations.
The student, whose name had been withheld, told the police during interrogation that the weapon belonged to his stepfather, Mr. Daniel Owusu Baafi.
Consequently, Mr. Daniel Owusu Baafi was also taken into custody on Thursday, May 15, 2025, for further questioning.
Both the student and his stepfather have been granted police inquiry bail and are scheduled to report to the police on Monday, May 19, 2025, for further investigations.
