In accordance with a Circuit Court order in Accra, the Ghana Police Service has carried out the destruction of a significant amount of seized narcotic drugs. The operation, overseen by Court Registrar Prosper Kingsley Damakah, resulted in the incineration of:
– 242 sacks of cannabis
– 13 kilos of cocaine
– Three medium-sized buckets of heroin
– 315 Indian hemp (weed)
– 68 compressed slabs of Indian hemp (weed)
The drugs were confiscated from various individuals between 2019 and 2023, with 13 separate court cases adjudicated between 2021 and 2024. Notable cases include:
– Samuel N. A. Armah (alias Rasta) – 21 wraps of cannabis (2019)
– Patrick Owusu and another individual – 24 wraps of cannabis (2021)
– George Ayeh, Victor Ojeh, and Fuseini Shako – varying quantities of Indian hemp (2019-2022)
– Edith Amadu, Augustine Mensah, Freda Ibrahim, and Isaac Nii Boye – cannabis and cocaine (2022-2023)
The market value of the destroyed drugs could not be determined, but the operation was a direct implementation of the court’s directive. The destruction of these seized narcotics demonstrates the commitment of the Ghana Police Service and the Court to combating drug-related crimes and reducing the availability of illicit substances.
