Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has emphasized the importance of maintaining romance in marriage, even amidst spiritual commitments. In a heartfelt message on his Facebook page, Adeboye shared that he and his wife, Foluke, continue to use affectionate pet names in private, underscoring that “anointing does not diminish romance.”
He encouraged married couples to prioritize intimacy and romance to keep their relationships vibrant and joyful. Adeboye noted that some pastors refrain from romantic activities, mistakenly believing they distract from their spiritual focus. He highlighted that being anointed does not eliminate the need for romance, citing a biblical example.
“The fact that you are a Christian does not take romance out of your marriage. Marriage is the only institution where romance and intimacy are allowed between a man and a woman,” he wrote.
He observed that some pastors rarely go on dates with their spouses, viewing such activities as distractions from their spiritual responsibilities. “Some of them don’t even play with their spouses anymore. Beloved, the anointing does not reduce the need for romance in marriage.”
Referencing Genesis 26:8, where Isaac is described as being romantic with his wife Rebekah, Adeboye said, “Don’t become too rigid in your marriage; don’t have more fun elsewhere without your spouse. Make your time together enjoyable so that you always look forward to seeing each other again. If you are married, remember how you used to talk for long hours before children came along; revive that connection.”
