In a unique display of sportsmanship and camaraderie, members and staff of the Ghanaian Parliament faced off against retired Black Stars players in a friendly football match. The game, played at the Accra Sports Stadium, was part of the Democracy Cup celebrations marking 30 years of parliamentary democracy in Ghana.

Led by Speaker Alban Bagbin, the Parliament team showed off their skills and determination, emerging victorious with a 3-1 win over the retired Black Stars players. The Speaker himself scored a goal, much to the delight of the cheering crowd.

Other notable players on the Parliament team included Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin of the NPP and Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson, who all demonstrated their passion for the beautiful game.

On the opposing side, retired Black Stars players Stephen Appiah, Sammy Kuffour, and Ibrahim Tanko showed flashes of their former brilliance, but ultimately couldn’t overcome the determined Parliament team.

The game was played in a light-hearted and friendly spirit, with both teams enjoying the occasion and each other’s company. The event was attended by dignitaries and football fans, who appreciated the display of sportsmanship and unity.

The friendly match served as a precursor to the main Democracy Cup match between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak, which was played later that day.
