Paris in Crisis: Fire Erupts at Iconic Eiffel Tower

Around 1,200 people have been forced to evacuate the Eiffel Tower after a fire broke out at the Paris landmark.
French police told local media that flames were spotted in the elevator between the first and second floors.

Firefighters believe the blaze started when a device near an elevator cable overheated, Boulevard Voltaire reported, citing a police source.
The fire has been brought under control, the source said, despite firefighters’ efforts to reach the source of the fire, as reported by The Mirror.

The attraction was closed to tourists while the fire was extinguished. The Eiffel Tower is one of the most famous structures in the world, welcoming an average of 15,000 to 25,000 visitors per day, according to the RoadGenius statistical database.

Last January, photos and videos on social media claimed to show the Eiffel Tower on fire, but they were fake.
In January 1956, a fire broke out in the tower’s television broadcast room, causing considerable damage.

A journalist from Boulevard Voltaire, Julien Tellier, writes: “About 1,200 people were evacuated. Firefighters are said to have identified the cause of the flames as the overheating of a cable. “The fire has been brought under control and is now out. The fire is suspected to have been caused by a heating device near a cable in one of the elevators.”

Several people have posted about the fire and evacuation on X, with some claiming to have been there when the incident occurred.
