The Oti Regional Minister, Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong, has appealed to feuding factions in Nkwanta South to lay down their arms and engage in dialogue to settle their differences amicably.
The meeting, which was part of the Minister’s efforts to address the unrest, aimed to foster collaboration between traditional authorities and security agencies to restore peace and stability.
Mr Gyapong emphasised the need for peaceful coexistence and cooperation among traditional leaders to promote regional integration and development.
His call for peace comes after recent communal conflicts in the area, which have resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of properties.
According to the Minister, development in the region depends on peace, and it was imperative that all chieftaincy disputes were addressed amicably to create a conducive environment for progress.
He emphasised that the cultural diversity of the region should be used to the advantage of the people, rather than to divide them.
He has assured that he is committed to building initiatives that will cultivate a conducive atmosphere for investment and growth, which will bring prosperity to the people.
The call for peace has been echoed by other stakeholders, including residents within the Municipality who have urged institutional bodies to implement government development programmes and policies.
In response, the chiefs have reaffirmed their commitment to peace by assuring the Oti Regional Minister of their support and efforts to address annual disturbances in the area.
As the people of Nkwanta South work towards peace and development, the Minister’s call for dialogue and cooperation serves as a reminder that unity and cooperation are key to achieving progress and prosperity.
