Muslims in the Oti Region have joined their counterparts worldwide in observing the Holy month of Ramadan, a period dedicated to fasting, reflection, and spiritual growth.
Alhaji Hudu Haruna, the Oti Regional Chief Imam, has called on all Muslims in the region to honour and respect the sanctity of the month.
“This month of Ramadan is sacred, and its blessings are immense. No Muslim who truly believes in Islam should take it lightly,” he stated.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Alhaji Haruna emphasised that fasting goes beyond abstaining from food and drink, urging Muslims to stay away from all that Allah forbids.
“Fasting is not just about refraining from eating and drinking. We must also ensure that we distance ourselves from acts such as fornication, alcohol consumption, gossip, theft, and causing trouble,” he said.
He further explained that during fasting, every part of the body should observe self-restraint.
“When we fast, our hands, eyes, nose, ears, legs, mouth, and even our private parts must also fast. We must be mindful of what we say, hear, watch, touch, smell, and where we go. Fasting is not only about food and drinks but about purifying our entire being,” he stressed.
The Regional Chief Imam also encouraged Muslims to practice kindness and extend generosity to those in need.
He urged all Muslims to observe Ramadan in a peaceful and holy manner, staying away from anything that goes against Islamic teachings.
Alhaji Haruna concluded by wishing all Muslims a successful and blessed Ramadan.
