Oguaaman welcomes Olu of Warri Kingdom to Cape Coast ahead Fetu festival  

The Oguaa Traditional Council has welcomed Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri Kingdom in Nigeria to Cape Coast in a grand style ahead of the annual Oguaa Fetu Afahye grand durbar on Saturday, September 5, 2025.

The Olu of Warri was invited by Paramount Chief of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, as a special guest for the 2025 Fetu Afahye, one of the most celebrated festivals in Ghana.

The chiefs and queenmothers  adorned in rich colourful kente and gold ornaments to match, received the Olu and his entourage at the Emitsimadze Palace, the seat of Oguaamanhen, amidst various cultural displays to portray the rich history and culture of the people of Cape Coast.

Also present was the Nigerian community in Ghana, who trooped the palace in their numbers to welcome him.

The revered monarch, who was first enstooled as a child at the age of five, is regarded as one of Nigeria’s most prominent traditional rulers.

His presence at this year’s festival, highlights the deepening cultural ties between Ghana and Nigeria, and the importance of traditional leadership in fostering unity across the African Continent.

Speaking on the visit, Osabarimba Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area expressed appreciation to the Olu, describing his visit as a “big honour” for the people of Cape Coast and Ghana at large.

He said the performances to welcome the King of Warri and his entourage was an indication of the rich cultures Africa was endowed with, which was a way of communicating with one another.

Osabarimba Atta reiterated that the visit was the beginning of mutual friendship between the two cultures and a move to show the world that they could unite for a better Africa.

He gave a brief history of Cape Coast through Gold Coast era and mentioned that the area remained the heartbeat of Ghana with respect to tourism.

The Fetu Afahye continues through the weekend with traditional processions, durbars, music, and cultural exhibitions aimed at showcasing the rich history and identity of the Area and the Central Region in general.

Chief Brown Mene, the Spokesman of the Warri King who led the entourage, appreciated Oguaaman for the warm reception.

“We are happy for the warm hospitality and reception, this will further cement the friendship between Oguaa and Warri and we will be happy to receive you in Warri for a visit.”
