Obama Urges Black Men to Back Harris, Slams Trump

Former President Barack Obama recently addressed a Democratic campaign event in Pittsburgh, where he urged Black men to step up their support for Vice President Kamala Harris. Obama expressed concern that Black male voters have not shown the same enthusiasm for Harris as they did for him in 2008. He pointed out that the lack of energy and turnout seems more pronounced among Black men, and criticized those making excuses for not supporting Harris.

Obama emphasized that women have consistently supported and advocated for Black communities, and it’s time for Black men to reciprocate. He highlighted Harris’ understanding of the struggles and experiences of Black communities, citing her policy focus on affordable housing and healthcare. In contrast, Obama described Donald Trump as someone who has consistently shown disregard for Black communities and individuals.

Polls show that Black voters overwhelmingly support Harris over Trump. An AP-NORC poll found 65% of registered Black voters think Harris would make a good president, compared to 15% for Trump. However, among Black male voters, Trump’s support rises to 21%. A separate NAACP poll showed 63% of Black voters plan to vote for Harris, but among Black men under 50, 26% support Trump.

Obama’s message emphasizes the importance of Black men’s support for Harris, urging them to look beyond excuses and recognize the value of having a president who truly understands and advocates for their communities.
